Reforestation in the Tangil wasteland, Monção
The site selected for afforestation is a vacant lot (Travassô), located in the parish of Tangil, Monção, Viana do Castelo. It falls within the homogeneous sub-region of Vez of the PROF AM – Regional Forest Management Plan of Alto Minho and within the Soajo-Peneda forest perimeter. The site is a mountainous terrain, covered mainly by spontaneous vegetation (heather, gorse, ferns).
The land occupies a total area of 7.50 ha, divided into 2 plots. The forest species selected for planting in this area were pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica), and chestnut (Castanea sativa). Due to the strong presence of livestock in this location, one of the plots was fenced off to increase the success of the establishment of the young plants. In the other plot, and based on the same premise, we used individual protectors as a method of protecting the young plants.
