On the Wolf's Trail

A book depicting the life of the Iberian wolf with never-before-seen images, all captured in the wild through the lens of a nature photographer. João Cosme, the result of months of fieldwork.

For many hours, João hiked trails and climbed mountains in search of the Iberian wolf, carrying a lot of equipment in his backpacks. He spent entire weeks in the mountains hoping to capture an image of one of the most emblematic animals of Portuguese fauna. Discover in this book unique photographs of wolves, landscapes, and diverse fauna and flora that share the territory with the Iberian wolf.

Edited by ACHLI – Association for the Conservation of the Iberian Wolf Habitat.

The Iberian Wolf and the Star

The book "The Iberian Wolf and the Star" portrays the story of a young shepherd, Luís, born and raised in the mountains, surrounded by nature. Through his voice, we get to know the real wolf better, which he so admires, and how, with the help of the Star, a valiant Serra da Estrela mountain range, he teaches us how it is possible to coexist with this predator.

Developed by Grupo Lobo, in partnership with Betweien, the publication had the support of ACHLI – Association for the Conservation of the Iberian Wolf Habitat and the collaboration of the Portuguese Association of the Serra da Estrela Dog and the League of Breeders and Friends of the Serra da Estrela Dog.

The Wolf Who Wasn't Bad

Discover in this work, "The Wolf Who Wasn't Bad," the true story about the wolf that no one told you. Through the deconstruction of key ideas present in one of the most popular children's tales whose villain is the wolf – Little Red Riding Hood – which have produced a negative image of this species in the collective social imagination, the book shows, in a narrative driven by the doubts and intrinsic curiosity of a child, who the Iberian wolf really is, addressing several fundamental themes related to this iconic mammal.

This book was published with the support of the Northern Regional Directorate of Culture, ACHLI - Association for the Conservation of the Iberian Wolf Habitat, and the municipalities of Bragança, Guarda, Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Montalegre, and Vimioso.

Supporting Coexistence in the Iberian Wolf's Habitat

This study deepens existing knowledge about the multiple uses of livestock guardian dogs in wolf-infested areas, in order to address several current challenges to their use. It was based on a social consultation process that examined human perceptions, opinions, and practices related to the use of livestock guardian dogs, substantiated by in situ observations and data on dog movements and spatial interactions with other activities.
