The site selected for afforestation is a vacant lot (near Branda do Baraçal), located in the parish of Sistelo, Arcos de Valdevez, Viana do Castelo. It falls within the homogeneous sub-region of Vez of the PROF AM – Regional Forest Management Plan of Alto Minho and within the Soajo-Peneda forest perimeter. The site is mountainous terrain, covered mainly by spontaneous vegetation (gorse and ferns).

The land occupies a total area of 3.25 ha. The forest species selected for planting in this area were Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica) and birch (Betula celtiberica). Due to the strong presence of livestock in this location, we opted to place a fence around the entire perimeter of the plot in order to increase the success of the establishment of the young plants.
